The world's premier exhibition
of contemporary sculptural and functional works in wood.

Tampa Convention Center, June 27-30, 2013

The AAW Symposium is the world's largest woodturning event, attracting over 1,500 registered attendees from all over the world. The Symposium includes art exhibits and a trade show that are open to the public, and thousands of pieces of work are on display, many for sale.

Woodturning is a form of woodworking created using the lathe, a machine that holds spinning wood securely while it is being carved and shaped. Common items made on a lathe include baseball balls and chair legs, but the artists and craftpeople working today take it far beyond those humble origins, creating sculptures and art objects.

Art exhibitions, a large craft show, a trade show/expo, auction, and an Empty Bowls fundraising event are all open to the public and free of charge. Pieces are available for purchase from $25 to over $20,000.

Sponsored by the American Association of Woodturning, an international nonprofit with over 15,000 members on every continent except Antarctica. The Symposium is held in a different city each year. It will be in Phoenix, Arizona in 2014.

Free and open to the general public:

  • Three juried international art shows
